Neurocutaneous Disorders (also known as phakomatoses) are a group of genetic conditions that primarily affect both the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves) and the skin. These disorders occur due to abnormal development of tissues derived from the embryonic ectoderm, leading to visible skin signs along with neurological complications.
Most neurocutaneous disorders are present at birth or early childhood, though symptoms may become more noticeable as the child grows. Skin findings often serve as important clues for early diagnosis, helping doctors identify underlying neurological involvement.
