Nerve Conduction Study (NCS)
A Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) is a diagnostic test used to evaluate how well peripheral nerves carry electrical signals. It measures the speed (conduction velocity) and strength (amplitude) of nerve impulses to identify nerve damage or dysfunction.
NCS is often performed together with Electromyography (EMG) for a comprehensive assessment of neuromuscular disorders.
Purpose of the EEG Test
- Detect nerve damage or degeneration
- Determine the type and severity of neuropathy
- Diagnose conditions affecting the motor neurons
- Differentiate between nerve and muscle disorders
- Identify nerve compression or entrapment
- Localize the site of nerve injury
- Monitor disease progression or response to treatment
Preparation Before EEG Test
- Bathe or shower before the test
- Avoid lotions, oils, or creams on the skin
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing
