Deafness (Hearing Loss)
Deafness, also known as hearing loss, is a condition in which a person has partial or complete difficulty hearing sounds in one or both ears. It can affect children or adults and may be present from birth or develop later in life.
Hearing loss can be temporary or permanent and may occur due to ear infections, genetic factors, exposure to loud noise, injury, or certain illnesses. Early detection is especially important in children, as hearing problems can affect speech, learning, and social development.
Common Symptoms of Deafness
- Delayed speech or unclear speech
- Not responding to sounds or when called
- Frequently asking for repetition
- Turning the head toward one ear to listen
- Difficulty following instructions
